Tuesday marks the inauguration of a new feature to this blog: I call it the Tuesday Teaser. The idea came to me while listening to one of my favorite radio shows, Car Talk. Those of you who are fans of the show know about the puzzler. Each week these two MIT graduates who also happen to be auto repair experts pose a complex mathematical problem. Readers then send in their answers.
Given that this blog is about politics and American history, each Tuesday it will feature a short post that poses a historical or political riddle that will be answered in a future post. My motives are to involve readers more actively in the blog as well as provide a preview of coming attractions.
Today the question concerns the relationship of four men: Sanford Weill, Bill Clinton, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Andrew Carnegie. Together they have something to tell us about changing attitudes towards wealth and government’s role in keeping the playing field level.
I invite readers to see if they can explain what these four have to do with America’s changing attitudes about wealth. The first reader with the correct answer will receive a free guest post. The post can be about anything, but must not include any profanity, pornography, advertising or libelous material. It also must be less than 3,000 words.
If you have your own blog, I would be glad to cross post something here.
There is one catch to this: once my post goes up with the answer, the contest ends. It’s sort of like the Powerball–you never know when someone is going to hit the winning number.
The winner–if there is one–will be published each Tuesday along with the next teaser.
