The Phillies make an interesting example of money ball. Go back a few years and they did not rank that high in team salaries, but since they have started spending money, they have risen accordingly. On the other hand, National League rival Houston ranked in the top ten the year they went to the series, but since then have fallen towards the bottom in salary ranking and have been out of the playoffs. The team that beat them in four straight that year--the Chicago White Sox--has followed much the same pattern.

As the man said, "Follow the money."

Its interesting that Phillies won the last World Series, but are considered underdogs this year, because they are playing the Yankees. The sports PR BS IS starting already. Not into sports stats, just a sometimes hometown fan.

GO PHILLIES!
