Welcome back. Good to know you are still reading and commenting. I have a friend who has lived in Alaska for a long time ( he was feeding me Palin stuff) and he talks about the different political climate.

Of you do write something, let me know and I will post it here also.

I find your question about what it means to be liberal to be a quite good one, just like what does it mean to be diverse. For example in Homer, AK there are many people with progressive and inclusive values who want to build a welcoming and wholesome community. However due to the high cost of living in the town of 5,000 permanent residents there is no sustainable, good paying work for people unless they want to go outside, probably to Anchorage or the North Slope.

Now when I was visiting Montgomery earlier this year and while I have been in Anchorage for the past four months I have seen a lot more ethnic diversity, Alaska has a great deal of ethnic diversity, apart from Caucasians, Native people, Africans, Asians and mixed race folks there are all kinds of ethnicites however most people here tend to have the same political views so to me in many ways it is not diverse.

Maybe this is something I will write on my blog one day when I am back in Minneapolis.
