My friends asked me why I would want to do something like that, as we are all politically liberal. I guess the idea is that the flag needs to be rescued from those who seek to politicize it. I am an American, like it or not. This is the Nation of my birth. I don't always agree with what this country does, but I'll be damned if I can't try and embody what I want it to be. I'm a firm believer that this or any other country is what its citizens make it to be. It's time to show that America is a progressive country. Do a little name dropping of the founders. Mention the constitution more. It was really interesting to find, following a hunch, the writings of Thomas Jefferson on public education; how contrary his opinion was to those on the right who claim to hold him as their political inspiration.
