Actually it's not just the poor who don't vote. As Winona LaDuke used to put it, the largest party in America is the nonvoters.

As for the poor not voting, if you will look at the exit pol data from recent election you will see the reason Bill Clinton won in 1996 is that the poor DID vote. Data also show the poor do not vote because they don't see candidates caring about them. Finally, we all know about the attempts that have been going on for some time now by the GOP to make it difficult for the poor to vote.

I leave you with one question, doesn't it bother you that the poor don't vote? Shouldn't we be concerned about that? Or don't you care.

You unwittingly answered the question of why the current Dems have cleaved/triangulated the 'middle class' from the poor. The poor do not vote! Aside from the sense of disgust and resentment that many in the middle class feel towards the poor (the poor get welfare, food stamps, Medicaid, Earned Income Credit, etc. while the middle class pays taxes and gets squat), why use inclusive rhetoric when the poor don't even bother to show up at the polls?

Mr Houn,

I'd love to play chess against you. One rookie mistake is to declare checkmate before the game is over. Chess is, above all, a game of memory--and your sense of history is not very good.

The wars Wilson and Roosevelt were involved in were both DECLARED WARS in which the declaration was based on attacks on Americans. The Korean War was a United Nations action, an INTERNATIONAL WAR. Iraq is none of these.

Checkmate to you!

Of course the Democrats can not refer to Wilson, Roosevelt and Truman. These were wartime/ war supporting presidents. Check and mate!
