I was a unix admin for the U till I lost my job. I spent the summer campaigning for Farheen Hakeem and helping my folks move. We left Mpls because though we really liked it Minneapolis did not like us. Came hoping to goto school or get a teaching job. But now we are going overseas.

Best wishes also to you. Minnesota’s slide is a direct result of our “no new taxes” governor who is slowly turning what had been a great state into something resembling Mississippi. As you remember, that bridge falling in was symbolic of a larger philosophy dedicated to cutting back “spending.” I hold the governor personally responsible for that accident.

What surprises me is that our wimpy excuse for news media has not done a full investigative report.

Then there is the larger message: each drop in rank means lives lost. If you think that report was an eye opener you ought to read the WHO reports on American health care.

BTW, what are you doing in Alaska? My memory is that you were in enginerring or something like that at the U?

Though I have been living in Alaska for almost 6 months I still see myself as a Minnesotan, being out of the state and visiting other parts of the country makes me proud that overall Minnesota and the midwest is more progressive than other states, even with the legacy of sundown towns and other things.

I mention my pride about the state because I noticed that MN was in the top 15 states overall though unfortunately lower than that in some other categories. I was a little bit dissapointed that for some of the ratings MN was not higher and that we were only 8 places above Alaska.
